R&D-Innovation

R&D - Innovation

The BioWin cluster supports the emergence of innovative R&D projects run collaboratively by businesses, universities and research centres delivering innovative products or services that have high added value, are commercially viable and generate employment. This initiative is achieved through calls for projects launched every year by the Walloon Government. Research projects supported by the BioWin cluster and eight overarching technological categories have been identified:

  1. Biomarkers + in vitro & in vivo diagnostics (including biomedical imaging)
  2. Innovative tools and equipment (for hospitals, laboratories or industry, e.g. nano-surfaces for cell culture, disposable cell incubators, etc.)
  3. Drug delivery systems (e.g. innovative formulations, drug targeting, etc.)
  4. Novel therapies (e.g. regenerative medicine, cell therapy, siRNA therapies, etc.)
  5. Information and communication technologies applied to human healthcare (e.g. integration/analysis/dissemination of diagnostic and radiology images, PK/PD modelling of drug-induced diseases, e-prescribing, electronic patient records, etc.)
  6. Innovative processes and organisational innovations (e.g. green chemistry synthesis, continuous production processes, new market access strategies)
  7. Medical equipment (sub-cutaneous implants, micro-needles, mini-invasive surgery equipment, etc.)
  8. Drug discovery (including antibody drug discovery, therapeutic vaccines discovery, etc.).
