Read:
The « BioWin Day » is the annual international meeting that BioWin organizes to let the participants meet and share around scientific and business-oriented items.
The cluster started in 2008 with a 1st edition and the format tends to evaluate year by year, taking into account the priorities of the moment for BioWin and its members.
3rd edition
While preparing the 3rd edition that will take place on December 8, 2010 in Louvain-La-Neuve (near Brussels), BioWin’s team decided to give an official title to this recurrent meeting : “Science for Business”.
As a cluster, BioWin is indeed committed to favor synergies emanating from excellent science and excellent business management. “Science for Business” means that this event is intended to gather representatives from all areas of health biotechnology and medical technologies able to innovate together and, by this way, to boost economic activities in the region.
This year, “Science for Business – BioWin Day 2010” will focus on “Open innovation – The New Model to Innovate in Health”. And instead of giving answers, we’d better ask ourselves the good questions about this thematic.
Is it really “new”, knowing that global players already implemented successfully the open innovation concept years ago in their research departments.
What are we talking about?
Open innovation is a concept rather difficult to define since there are many possible interpretations.
- Is there one unique model of different ones?
- Do we apply open innovation in the same way in the USA, as in Asia or in Europe?
- What about the intellectual property of the R&D in such a model?
- What about the impact of such a model on the Human Resources Management within the companies and (non-)universities laboratories collaborating on innovation?
There is so much hope put into open innovation for the R&D in health and for the business that it could bring that BioWin, as an actor fostering open innovation in its region, decided to go deeper into this model with experts and testimonials from the field.
