They operate in a range of niches, from academic research to development, from the production of diagnostic tests and equipment to support technologies.

The working group WAL-DX has the ambition to level up both clusters’ dynamic (Euromediag/EuroBiomed) at European level by creating a European cluster of Diagnostic. With Euromediag/EuroBiomed and other European clusters.

EXPERTISE, RESOURCES AND INNOVATIVENESS IN WALLONIA:

Values:
Wallonia can pride itself on having everything that is needed for the elaboration, development, production and distribution of the most effective diagnostic products.

It is obvious that nowadays all biotechnology initiatives must comply with the most stringent quality standards – indispensable to access international markets and cross-border partnerships – and that processes must respect sustainable development and environmental criteria. Companies in Wallonia are particularly watchful to these considerations.

EDCA

The European Diagnostic Clusters Alliance (EDCA) boosts competitiveness of European diagnostic SMEs

The first European world class diagnostic cluster has now become a reality through the creation of an international non-for-profit organization with name “European Diagnostic Clusters Alliance (EDCA)” and headquarter in Brussels (Belgium).

This Alliance aims to foster and develop collaborative networking between European diagnostic clusters in order to consolidate the competitiveness of their SMEs.
Access to non-EU markets (
USA and Asia) for European medical diagnostic SMEs is also a key objective to the EDCA members.

Eight clusters have been involved so far in this initiative (more information here):
  • Biocat (Barcelona, Spain)
  • EuroMeDiag/Eurobiomed (Languedoc Roussillon - Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur, France)
  • Life Science Cluster Krakow (Poland)
  • Nexxus Scotland (UK)
  • OBN (Oxford, UK)
  • Uppsala Bio (Sweden)
  • WAL-Dx/BioWin (Wallonia - Belgium)
  • ZMDB/BioTOP (Berlin-Brandenburg, Germany)

Together they are gathering 330 diagnostic companies (mostly SMEs) and 46 Universities. The founding partners expect that other European diagnostic clusters may soon join the club.

The European Diagnostic Clusters Alliance has been making increasing efforts to find the necessary financial resources to develop and transform this network into a true European world-class cluster.
This is why they have joined their forces and shared their experience to participate in the call for projects launched by the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP- DG Enterprise and Industry): “Promoting international cluster activities in Europe”.
