In December 2009, BioWin signed a collaboration agreement
with Eurobiomed, the health cluster of the PACA-Languedoc-Roussillon regions (France). Within the context of this agreement, one of the things the partners have planned is the creation of a European network of in vitro diagnostics stakeholders
(IVD). Euromediag, the “medical diagnostic” cluster of Eurobiomed, and WAL-Dx, the Walloon network of in vitro diagnostics stakeholders, have brought together six other European clusters active in the IVD field to form, in December 2010, the European Diagnostic Clusters Alliance (EDCA). This self-financing initiative
directly follows the recommendations of the European cluster policy group which encourages regional clusters to network and form “World Class Technology Clusters”
The European Diagnostic Clusters Alliance (EDCA) is now formed as an international not-for-profit association under Belgian law.
Its main objectives are to:
- Consolidate the competitiveness of European innovators in the field of In Vitro Diagnostics.
- Ease access for companies (particularly SMEs) to Asian and North American markets.
- Reposition diagnostics at the heart of medical practice.
Members (2011): Biocat (SP), EuroMeDiag/Eurobiomed (FR), Life Science Cluster Krakow (PO), Lyonbiopôle (FR) Nexxus Scotland (UK), OBN (UK), Uppsala Bio (SE), WAL-Dx/BioWin (BE), and ZMDB/BioTOP (DE).
EDCA brings together 350 in vitro diagnostics companies
(mainly SMEs) and 50 universities.
