Inside the Health Physics Control department, you will act as a Health Physics Control Lead, in charge of operations related to radiation protection within the facilities (production laboratories and cyclotron vaults). The Health Physics Control Lead will implement the international and national regulations on the site by adapting the existing procedures and proposing new ones, as well as training and monitoring the people who carry out the procedures.
Key Accountabilities:
- Develops, implements, and ensures adherence to safety procedures and protocols related to radioactive materials in alignment with regulatory standards and company objectives.
- Conducts routine checks for radioactive contamination, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Identifies and assesses potential risks in areas involving radioactive materials, implementing control measures to mitigate exposure.
- Monitors and evaluates dosimetry programs, ensuring proper protection measures for personnel and compliance with radiation safety standards.
- Assesses the functionality and effectiveness of safety and warning systems, ensuring they meet established regulatory and safety requirements.
- Provides training and guidance to employees and educates visitors on radiation safety protocols and procedures.
- Takes immediate action in the event of an incident or accident, executing urgent measures to prevent further exposure and mitigate risks.
- Supervises and ensures the safe packaging, loading, and unloading of radioactive substances, adhering to safety guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Regularly inspects high-activity sealed sources for integrity, ensuring they meet regulatory safety standards and are in proper condition.
- Reports regularly to the Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC), ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and radiation safety standards.
Education and Experience:
- Possess a master’s degree with a focus on exact sciences (preferably Chemistry or Physics) or an Engineer’s degree, along with any other diploma that recognizes training in radiation protection and safety.
- 2+ years of experience in a facility that handles radioactive materials, with a strong willingness to develop expertise in the field of radiation protection.
- The candidate must be trained in accordance with the FANC Technical Regulation of 6 October 2020 on training programs for Radiation Protection Officers (RPO) or be competent to take the radiation protection examination.
- Training as an Expert in Physical Control according to GRPIR Article 73 is an asset.
- Strong foundational knowledge of radiation safety principles, as well as a commitment to maintaining compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
