About SmadMinX

SmadMinX is an innovative biotech startup developing VHH (nanobody-based) therapeutics to prevent metastasis in subsets of gastroenterological cancer patients. Our lead VHH candidate has already demonstrated promising early-stage results in both in vitro and in vivo studies.

As we enter the next phase of development, SmadMinX is establishing its R&D operations at the Biopark in Gosselies, Belgium. We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join our growing team and help advance our therapeutic pipeline.

Position Overview

We are looking for a versatile, hands-on, and independent Scientist with strong laboratory expertise and organizational skills. The successful candidate will play a central role in setting up the laboratory, developing and running assays, managing lab operations, and supporting external collaborations (CROs, CDMOs, and regulatory/ethical bodies).

Key Responsabilities

• • Set up and organize the laboratory, including equipment, workflows, and documentation
  • Develop, optimize, and execute assays related to VHH research
  • Design, perform, and analyze experimental studies
  • Work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative environment
  • Manage day-to-day laboratory operations (reagents, inventory, equipment maintenance)
  • Prepare high-quality scientific reports and deliver clear presentations (internal and external)
  • Contribute to interactions with external partners (CROs, CDMOs, regulatory and ethics committees)
  • Adapt working hours as needed to meet experimental timelines

Required Qualification and Skills

• • Proven experience in cell-based assays; experience with VHH is a strong asset
  • Strong ability to work independently and manage laboratory activities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Experience in oncology or metastasis research
  • Experience in a startup or fast-paced R&D environment
  • Familiarity with VHH or antibody-based therapeutics

Lab Expertise

The candidate should be proficient in most of the following techniques:

• • Cell culture
  • Cell viability assays
  • Luciferase assays
  • FACS (cell sorting)
  • Basic statistical analysis
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Cell transfection techniques
  • Immunohistochemistry
  • Microscopy with basic histological knowledge
  • In situ hybridization

Nice to have:

• • Certification and hands-on experience in animal experimentation, including PDX models
