Belgium opens opportunities in innovative nuclear technologies

Collaboration

Belgium’s federal and regional authorities (Flanders and Wallonia) have launched a consultation to prepare a potential Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) in innovative nuclear technologies. The initiative, open until 29 October 2025, seeks to identify projects and partners capable of driving European leadership in this strategic sector.

The IPCEI aims to support cutting-edge developments across the nuclear value chain, from next-generation reactors and advanced fuel cycles to waste management and decommissioning, as well as medical applications such as the diversification and scaling of radioisotope production for nuclear medicine. These technologies are key to achieving climate neutrality, energy security, and new health solutions for patients.
